Are My Glasses Ready? When Is My Next Appointment? And When Will My Orville Redenbacher Be Done?

Posted on November 14, 2011 · Posted in General, Technology

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been slightly spoiled by technology.  Yelling at the microwave for taking too long would be a good indication of that.  But I think the reason we appreciate technology is that it allows our various tasks and responsibilities to fit our busy lives, not the other way around.

At FirstView Eye Care Associates, we are constantly working on ways to enhance the doctor/office/patient relationship.  That’s why we are excited to announce the introduction of our new Personal Health Record information portal.  Live as of this posting, our portal allows patients to log-in from the convenience of their own computer and access various information regarding their eye care.

Presently, our portal offers five areas of information:

  1. My Provider
    • Shows a summary of your doctor, practice information, website, and contact information.
  2. My Information
  3. My Account
    • Provides a summary of financial transactions with the practice including current account balances and the ability to view and print current and past invoices.
  4. My Appointments
    • A summary of past and future appointments.  Also allows access to clinical summary documents from past visits.
  5. My Orders
    • Provides a summary of product orders, their status, and delivery date.

I don’t know about you, but I find a lot of this to be quite exciting.  As a patient, if I was wondering what my diagnoses were from my last visit, I have access to that information at the click of a button.  If I forgot when my next appointment was, I can log-in and check.  If I’m wondering where my contact lenses are, I can check my order status at any time.

The great part about this portal is that the functionality you see now is simply the foundation for what we will be offering in the not-too-distant future.  Plans include allowing patients to make and reschedule appointments, complete pre-exam documentation at home leading to more efficient office visits, order materials, or even pay bills from their computer or mobile device.  (OK…so maybe paying your bill isn’t exciting…but the idea that you can do so on your own schedule might be, right?)

As our patient, use of the portal is complimentary and completely optional.  But we hope that you see its value for the present and into the future.  Questions?  Feel free to comment, contact us, or call.
