Quora: How does Clear Eyes work?

Posted on May 16, 2012 · Posted in Dry Eye, Eye Health

There is actually a family of products under the Clear Eyes brand name and their uses range from basic eye lubricant to redness, itching, and allergy relief.

Many of the the products in the Clear Eyes family have two active ingredients:  naphazoline hydrochloride and glycerin.

Naphazoline hydrochloride is a direct-acting sympathomimetic agent that binds to receptors in the blood vessels of the conjunctiva resulting in vasocontriction.  This constriction produces the effect that most people associate with Clear Eyes: a reduction in eye redness.

Glycerin is the primary lubricant in Clear Eyes products and can help relieve itching and dryness.
